This is the case in some charter schools. It’s nothing new. I wonder how many other red states in particular are experiencing a teacher shortage. I remember hearing about issues in both Texas and Florida schools while I was still teaching, in particular re: those teaching AP courses. They were horror stories. In CA, I had a decent salary after a few years that I could support myself and my daughter though I was still living paycheck to paycheck, plus I have decent retirement benefits that many teachers don’t have. I also taught outside of my major, but it was in my minor’s subject area, so I was prepared. Still teachers put out a lot of money from their own pockets. I had to come back to read this from Joyce Vance. The reason? She’s one of a few who explains what’s happening with the courts, and gives us suggestions about what we can do. Our calls to our Representatives is helping. It’s affecting that convicted felon who occupies the Oval Office. We have to keep doing this, and as Vance has said here, we need to be engaged, and we need to work to get others engaged. This is how we protect our democracy, our freedoms.
