This is insane. I see the teacher's point of view. What's scary is it appears her students have become their parents. Make sense? Still I never have read the book. With all this hullabaloo regarding banning books, something I'm steadfast against happening, I had to look to see if it was available. It was so I checked it out. I never could have taught in SC. How did I come to that conclusion? SC has this proviso that forbids "teachers from causing students 'guilt, anguish or … psychological distress' on account of their race." Talk about insanity. I would have been fired, because I refuse to allow others to make decisions for me. I love what Mary Wood has planned for teaching this memoir. If I was still teaching it sounds like something I would do, a starting point. I taught AP English Language, too. Something like this makes me miss the classroom. I plan to begin reading it today. - Between the World and Me
