Reading

Now that there are no more papers to grade, no more illegible handwriting to decypher, the time has come not to reread books to be taught but to reread those books I want to reread, and read others I've never read before.  It has been said that reading increases a person's lifespan.  Whether that is true or not, still the adventure awaits in different books, hard copies please.  Below is a list that will grow as the years pass by. Plus there will be a mixture of nonfiction, still my favorite genre with some fiction and poetry.  The first is one begun over Winter Break last year but not finished until this summer.
  • Romantic Outlaws: The Extraordinary Lives of Mary Wollstonecraft and Her Daughter Mary Shelley by Charlotte Gordon - not good to read in spurts then put down because it can be easy to become confused because the chapters alternate between the two Marys though an excellent read otherwise
  • The Round House by Louise Erdrich - love all her books
  • What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami (yes, there is a connection)
  • I'm Supposed to Protect You From All This by Nadja Spiegelman (excellent read)
  • The Hour of Land: A Personal Topography of America's National Parks by Terry Tempest Williams - the title is a bit deceiving.  It's not just about national parks.  This book should be required reading for everyone.  Many times while reading it made me stop and think deeply.

This is a good read. Judge Chutkan is on the job, fairly & unbiased. Obviously the felon is running scared. Excellent read of all I’ve read about this earlier yesterday.  - A Real Judge Let this sink in: " The U.S. government seized 32 internet domains created by Russia in violation of U.S. money laundering and criminal trademark laws, the Justice Department said in a news release." An example of the fake site is given as well. This is quite a publication, and worth the time to read. -   DOJ uncovers Russian plot to influence Jews in US elections – The Forward Podcast worth listening to. This is not the first I’ve listen to with Haviv Rettig Gur. Good podcast that's a bit over 35 minutes in length. Definitely worth a listen. IMO this is important. Still we're standing alone. Why is this the case? We have stood with so many of you during the crises others face. Why do you now understand the Jews are Indigenous to Israel. I wonder how many will actually read this. It should be read for everyone. - Why We're Founding Harvard Faculty For Israel The same is needed for Middle Eastern terrorist organizations. A must read IMO for whatever it's worth. And stop with your bashing of the DOJ. Why are people surprised about this? Interesting that some are high school drop outs. - Spy Catchers Win! But how does this help the rest of us? It's still  exacerbating  the problem, you know, climate change. A time will come when where this tax money will go will end, and then what? Explain that to me. -   Berkeley's gas plan was blocked in court. Now a new plan has emerged.  I stand with Sabine Taasa and her family. I stand with the Israeli families whose family members have either been murdered by Ham@s or still held hostage. I stand with  Israel. If you have a problem with that, ask me if I care what you think. - Oct. 7 survivor tells UN to 'stop blaming us' for war, focus on blow to Israeli kids Something many of us look forward to happening. - Secretary Haaland Upholds Protections for 28 Million Acres os Alaska Public Lands What the right wing is up to in their spread of misinformation.
